TGNPDCL Plans Summer Power Boost in Telangana

Nizamabad: For uninterrupted power supply in peak summer season, the Telangana State Northern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGNPDCL) is made supper action plan. By improving the infrastructure like additional feeders, transformers and substations, the officials will ensure quality power supply.

All circles under undivided Nizamabad, Adilabad, Karimnagar, Warangal and Khammam districts are preparing estimates for the works to be taken up. The process of planning, estimations and execution of works began in all districts. Usually, NPDCL officials take up summer precautionary works every year.

For the first time, by spending huge amounts, the officials planned to improve the power supply in the summer season, which is crucial for domestic, industrial and other sectors. TGNPDCL chairman and managing director Karnati Varun Reddy directed officials to be alert and take up the summer action plans in their respective areas. With tentative estimates Rs 150 crore will be spent on the works.

There is a steep increase in power consumption in rural and urban areas. In view of fluctuation in weather conditions, people prefer to use fans, air coolers and air conditions regularly in homes and offices. As a result, power demand will be increased every nook and corner of the NPDCL limits. Usually, officials expect 15 percent hike in power consumption every year and it may reach a high this time.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, TGNPDCL chairman and managing director Karnati Varun Reddy said that for the first time they are interlinking the substations to avoid interruption in power supply. If any tree falls on electric lines, at least 2-3 hours to take restoration of the power, but interlinking of substations will sort out the problems within 2-3 minutes, he explained.

By October onwards, we identified the demand and supply areas in all districts and based on that summer action plans prepared, CMD said. Reliability of substations for interlinking is required for 1500 substations and 498 had already completed the work, he said. By April, 2025, around 1250 substations interlinked, he said. In addition, SMS will alert the people as well as field staff, of any interruption in power supply in the area, he explained.

On Thursday, 5300 MW power demand reported under TGNPDCL limits. The officials are expecting it would touch 6000 MW in the peak summer season of April and May months. Power banking with Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh states and power production in Yadadri Thermal Power Station would also cater the demand in summer, the officials said.

TGNPDCL Nizamabad circle superintending engineer R.Ravinder said that 7 substations including indoor substation at Phulong Rythu Bazaar in Nizamabad will come up soon. Consumers can call 1912 toll-free number any power related problems, he said. Power transformers and additional DTRs would ease out all grievances, he said.
