Tirupati: District police arrested three notorious interstate fraudsters who have been stealing from single women by posing as civic staff.
Addressing a press conference at the district police office on Thursday, Tirupati superintendent of police (SP) V Harshavardhan Raju stated that the accused were identified as A Krishna (34), his younger brothers A Sharath (24) and H Venugopal, residents of Shimoga district in Karnataka and their three other accomplices Ravi, Ganesh and Prashanth. They initially formed a gang and resorted to lifting bags from buses, house break-ins, etc, in order to pay for their vices. Recently, Krishna and his brothers started targeting single women. They showed up at their targets’ doorsteps posing as municipal staff who were there to inspect water connection and drainage pipes. Later, they decamped with valuables from the houses.
On Dec 20, 2024, the gang stole gold ornaments from an elderly woman named Polina Dhanamma of Kesavayanagunta locality in Tirupati. Acting upon her plaint, the cops nabbed the three accused on Thursday and recovered 280 gram gold jewellery, a car and two bikes.
