In Tollywood, there are only a few big stars who can convincingly play a lover boy as well as do massy roles with commercial value.
Prabhas, NTR, and Ram Charan have done some impressive romantic roles in the past, but they are now confined to doing massy roles with a lot of action and hero elevations.

Mahesh is one actor who can still impress with good romantic films with a great director. Another actor is Allu Arjun.
In the early stages of his career, Allu Arjun earned the “lover boy” image with films like Arya and Arya 2, which became cult classics.

His films like Desamuduru, Parugu, Julayi, S/O Satyamurthy, and even ala vaikunthapurramuloo have good doses of romance that impressed the audience.
He has now shifted his focus towards mass films, especially after the humongous success of Pushpa, and today, he is a pan-India superstar.

However, if sources are to be believed, Allu Arjun seems to still be drawn towards love stories despite his transition to mass roles. He is still looking out for some great love story scripts.
It appears that Allu Arjun has a strong desire to return to the love story genre, as proven by a recent conversation with Devi Sri Prasad. Allu Arjun reportedly promised to do a classic love story with six melodious songs.
He highlighted that, compared to other genres, love stories tend to have a longer-lasting impact, citing the enduring popularity of films like Devadas, Geethanjali, and Arya.
Despite this yearning for love stories, Allu Arjun has already established a mass image in the pan-India market. Taking a step away from that image might prove to be a risky move, as seen with films like Prabhas’ Radhe Shyam, which turned out to be disasters.
Thus, while Allu Arjun’s wish to revisit the love story genre is clear, it remains to be seen whether he can balance this with his mass appeal as he will now want to take it to the next level after Pushpa 2.
A pure love story might not be the best choice for him at this stage of his career when he is looking to strengthen his pan-India market.
