Former GGH superintendent quizzed in RRR torture case

Vijayawada: Prakasam SP A R Damodar questioned Dr Prabhavati, who was named as A5 in the custodial torture case involving former MP and current AP deputy speaker Raghu Rama Krishna Raju. The case pertains to allegations that Raju was subjected to severe physical assault while in CID custody. During the interrogation, Damodar questioned Dr Prabhavati about the discrepancies in medical reports and the reasons behind the alleged tampering of records.
Dr Prabhavati, who was the superintendent of Guntur government general hospital (GGH) at the time, stated in her reports that Raju had no injuries. The SP sought clarification on how she arrived at that conclusion and whether proper medical procedures were followed in assessing the then MP’s condition. Raju, after sustaining injuries while in CID custody, was taken to GGH for treatment, but the official medical reports contradicted his claims. After a case was registered against Dr Prabhavati, she approached the Supreme Court seeking relief. While granting her temporary protection, the apex court directed her to cooperate with police investigation. In compliance with the court’s directive, she appeared at the SP’s office in Ongole for questioning on Friday.
Police are trying to extract more information in the alleged conspiracy behind Raju’s custodial torture. The deputy speaker earlier lodged a complaint with Nagarampalem police in Guntur, alleging that he was brutally tortured in CID custody during YSRCP regime.
