A rally was organised by the Labour Department as part of the Bonded Labour System Abolition Week to create awareness among the general public on the evil of bonded labour, here on Friday. The week is being observed on the directives of the State government,
Schoolchildren participated in the rally, organised from the Office of the Labour Department at Akkayyapalem to the 80 Feet Road Circle, near Maharani Parlour, and back to the Labour Office, with the support and collaboration of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Police Department, NGOs working the area of abolition of bonded labour like IJM, Nature and CEFHA.
The children raised slogans on the need for abolition of bonded labour and for protection of child rights.
Joint Commissioner of Labour, Zone-I, Visakhapatnam, M. Rama Rao, State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) Member Gondu Seetharam and Deputy Commissioner of Labour M. Suneetha participated in a human chain organised to mark the occasion.
The Bonded Labour Abolition Day will be observed on February 9.
