Gunadala Mary Matha festival begins today | Vijayawada News


Vijayawada: The 101st Lurtha Matha festival, widely known as Gunadala Mary Matha festival, will begin at the hill shrine on Eluru road on Sunday. The three-day annual event is expected to witness participation of about one million devotees from various parts of the state, besides from neighbouring Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka.
The transport dept will operate additional bus services to facilitate travel for devotees across the state.

Railways have also arranged temporary halts for some trains to accommodate devotees arriving from north coastal Andhra districts. South Central Railway has permitted an extra minute’s stoppage for six express trains at Ramavarappadu station for the three festival days (Feb 9-11).
The municipal corporation has made extensive preparations by deploying sanitation workers to ensure cleanliness at the hill shrine and provide drinking water to devotees throughout the festival.
In light of the recent stampede in Tirupati, police have implemented strict security measures to ensure the safety of attendees.
