There, officials and medical experts discussed future strategies. Collector Dr G Lakshmisha, who chaired the meeting, emphasised the need for environmental testing to determine potential causes of CKD in the affected areas. He directed pollution control authorities to conduct tests within 20 days to detect uranium, cadmium, and arsenic levels in the air.
The agriculture department was instructed to analyse soil samples for nephrotoxic metals, while rural water supply department was tasked with testing water sources within residential areas, supplementing earlier assessments by ICMR and ANTRU laboratories. Officials were directed to launch extensive awareness programmes, reaching 15 tandas with 3,600 houses and expanding to non-tanda areas.
