Hyderabad: Excise police arrested Sunita Das, 35, who was impersonating a lawyer and a medico and was smuggling ganja into the city over the past year. In all, she had transported over 150 consignments from Odisha and Chhattisgarh.
Police arrested her along with her boyfriend Salman Qureshi of Chhattisgarh and Kan Kan Sen, excise special task force circle inspector Ch Nagraj said.
Sunita Das used to help those arrested in drug smuggling cases and employ them to peddle narcotics. She had also struck contacts with suppliers in Odisha including one Suraj Jain, Nagraj said.
In early 2024, Sunita bought a seven-seater vehicle which she used to smuggle drugs. She used to pose as an advocate or a doctor heading to the city to escape checks. Her confident manner threw off the police, the excise inspector said.
On Friday night, acting on a tip-off, excise police stopped the vehicle at the Pedda Amberpet Exit 2 and checked it, only to find 14 kg ganja worth Rs.8.5 lakh.
Nagraj said the police had found several old photos of Sunita Das at Malkangiri in her cellphone which they plan to use as evidence.
For every trip, Sunita would get Rs.30,000, Qureshi Rs.10,000 and Kan Kan Sen Rs.20,000.
