Court halts HYDRAA’s Sunday demolition

Hyderabad: Telangana high court criticised the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) for carrying out demolitions in Koheda village on Sunday. The court questioned the unusual urgency in the demolition drive on a holiday. While halting the demolitions, Justice K Lakshman issued an interim order restraining HYDRAA from proceeding with the demolitions, citing procedural lapses and an insufficient notice period.
During a special sitting on Sunday, Justice Lakshman heard a house motion filed by Samreddy Bala Reddy challenging HYDRAA’s Feb 7 notice. Questioning HYDRAA, Justice Lakshman asked: “What is the hurry?” HYDRAA had asked the petitioner to submit property documents, including pattadar passbooks, with just one day’s compliance time.
The petitioner’s counsel, E Venkata Siddhartha, argued that the notice was issued on a Friday, demanded compliance by Saturday, and demolitions began on Sunday, leaving inadequate time for response. TNN
