A 29-year-old man in Hyderabad was held for murder after he stabbed his industrialist grandfather, aged 86, more than 70 times following a heated argument over property at the latter’s residence.
Kilaru Kirti Teja also allegedly stabbed his mother on Thursday night when she tried to stop him from attacking V C Janardhan Rao, the chairman and managing director of Veljan Group. The mother, Sarojini Devi, was stabbed four times and is being treated at a private hospital.
Teja had returned from the US after completing a Masters degree in business, said police. They said Rao had recently appointed his eldest daughter’s son, Srikrishna, as the group’s director. This irked Teja, the son of the younger daughter, who was given 4 crore in company shares.
When Teja and his mother visited Rao at his residence in the heart of Hyderabad, an argument broke out between the two men over property.
At the time of the assault, Devi was in the kitchen, away from the living room which became the scene of the crime.
The accused grabbed a knife and stabbed his grandfather more than 70 times despite the presence of a security guard hired by the octogenarian industrialist, said police.
Veljan Group, established in 1965 is a “pioneering fluid power company”, its website says. The company specialises in developing and “manufacturing a wide range of Pneumatic and Hydraulic products, components and systems at its various manufacturing plants located in and near Hyderabad”.

The accused is in judicial remand.
