Over 4,000 contract workers employed under TVVP protest over unpaid salaries

More than 4,000 contract workers employed under the Telangana Vaidya Vidhana Parishad (TVVP) have been protesting for five consecutive days over the non-payment of their salaries for several months. The workers, who are responsible for maintaining operations at secondary-level hospitals across the state, say that the delay has put them in severe financial distress.

“Today (February 8) marks the fifth day of our protest, yet not many are paying attention because TVVP hospitals are relatively smaller. This is not the first time we are facing such an issue. In September last year, we went on a similar protest when salaries were withheld for five consecutive months. The agitation led to the release of our dues, but just a few months later, we found ourselves in the same situation,” said M. Narsimha, State General Secretary of the Telangana Medical Contract Employees and Workers Union.

TVVP, established in 2014 after the formation of Telangana, oversees 175 secondary-level hospitals across the state. Despite their crucial role, contract workers claim they have been struggling to receive their monthly wages on time.

Responding to the ongoing agitation, TVVP Commissioner J. Ajaya Kumar acknowledged the issue and assured that efforts were underway to resolve it. “The bills are pending from the government side, and I have been informed that they will be cleared within three to four days,” he said.
