Telangana: Fire breaks out at Devan Devdi market in Hyderabad’s old city

Hyderabad: A major fire broke out at a commercial complex located at Devan Devdi market in the old city on Sunday night. No casualties were reported so far in the incident.

The fire broke out in a shop on the fourth floor of the Madina and Abbas Towers Building located at Devan Devdi. Around 200 shops are located in the building.

The fire soon spread to adjacent shops and also a shop on the third floor of the building. Noticing the high intensity of the fire, the officials sent around 15 fire tenders to the spot from different fire stations in the city.

The fire fighters are battling hard to control the fire as there are no setbacks to the building and the fire fighters climbed the adjacent buildings and are pumping water. A lot of combustible material in particular clothes is stocked in the shops in the complex.

Local public representatives visited the spot. The Devan Devdi is a wholesale market famous for ready-made clothes, bed sheets and carpets.

Fire accidents are regularly reported in the market yet no concrete efforts are made by the fire department, local representatives and GHMC to educate the traders and force them to implement fire safety measures.
