My Yamaha RD 200 & RD 125 restoration: Parts sandblasting stage updates

On the RD 125, the chassis was sent for sandblasting post the welding work followed by powder coating

Mini Update

The restoration on both the RD 200 and RD 125 are progressing ahead at a good pace. On the RD 200 the powder coated parts have arrived and the painting process for the other parts should be completed in a few days. Ideally the painting should have been completed by this week but the painter was not available for a few days and the tank needed extra attention as there was a lot of bubbling and needed tinkering work. Post that after epoxy sanding, there’s a round of bodyfiller again followed by sanding and then sprayed with 2k primer for the final paint coat to be applied.

On the RD 125, the chassis was sent for sandblasting post the welding work followed by powder coating and all those parts along with the engine casing and blacks are ready. Further, the boring of the piston and blocks have been completed along with the crank rebuild. Now, once the shaper work on the blocks are completed the engine will be assembled and then work on the magnet and coil plate can be started.. So the RD 125 still has loads of work left…

Other body parts scraped down as well

Tinkering work

Some more. Its a 53 year old tank
so this was expected

Sanded down and ready for 2k primer

The other parts are also sanded down and ready gor 2k primer

Post 2k primer

Finalising the paint shade. The one on the left matches the shade of the OE oil tank that i git recently. Went with the lighter shade on the right

The RD 125 crank is now ready

The smallest twin crank you will come across

Luckily was not as difficult as the RZ crank to rebuild

New connecting rods that I had purchased 15 years back

Block post sandblasting

Looks like new. Who would say this were built in 1979

Top view

Boring is complete as well and only the edges need shaper work. It was a challenge to get a machine to fit such small blocks

Third oversized pistons

Frame is all ready

The OE RD 200 main stand on the right and on the left is the OE RD 125 main stand
