Women ignore e-buses in Warangal despite free service

WARANGAL: The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) has introduced 82 new electric buses in Warangal, including 19 super luxury, 14 deluxe, 21 semi-deluxe, and 29 express services. Despite the Congress government’s Maha Lakshmi scheme, offering free travel for women, the response has been lukewarm.

Women passengers are hesitating to board the electric express buses, fearing they may be charged for tickets. Male passengers, concerned about high fares, also remain reluctant.

To address confusion, TGSRTC has placed banners on buses clarifying that the Maha Lakshmi scheme applies. Conductors and drivers are also actively encouraging women to board. Deputy regional manager K. Bhanu Kiran said that passengers mistake these buses for higher-category services due to their superior design, leading to hesitation.

TGSRTC officials are now focusing on awareness campaigns to boost ridership and ensure the success of the electric fleet.
