Accused in ’15 mayor murder granted bail | Vijayawada News

Vijayawada: The high court on Friday granted bail to Sriram Chandra Sekhar, alias Chintu, who is the main accused in the 2015 murder of former Chittoor mayor Kathari Anuradha and her husband Mohan. The court imposed several conditions, including sharing of his ‘live location’ with the police.
Chintu and seven others, killed Mohan and Anuradha, who were also his uncle and aunt, in the municipal corporation office on Nov 15, 2015. He surrendered before the police after 15 days (Nov 30) and has been in jail since then. His bail applications were rejected seven times, including by the Supreme Court. However, the apex court directed the sessions court to complete the trial in six months. Though the trial is in its final stages, it has not been completed yet, as the investigation officer is yet to be examined. In the meanwhile, Chintu was acquitted in another case in which he was earlier convicted and sentenced to life. He moved the high court again seeking following his acquittal in that case. As he has been in jail for more than nine years and the trial is yet to be completed, the high court granted him bail with several conditions.
Chintu has been asked not to enter Chittoor district other than to attend court. He should share his contact details and address, including live location, with the police. The HC further directed him not to induce any kind of threat or influence on the witnesses.
