AP student tops girls in JEE Main session 1; 1 from T scores perfect 100

Hyderabad/Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh’s Sai Manogna Guthikonda is the country topper among girls in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2025 Session 1, results of which were released on Tuesday. Of the 14 students from across the country, she is the only girl to secure 100 percentile or 100 NTA score.
From Telangana, Bani Brata Majee is the top ranker and he is the only student to secure the perfect score from the state.
This has been one of the poorest performances of Telangana students compared with previous years. In last year’s Jan session, Telangana had seven with 100 NTA scores and AP three.
The JEE Main 2025 session 2 is scheduled to be held between April 1 and 8. After session 2, the rank of the candidates will be released, taking into consideration the best of the two scores.
“I followed a rigorous study routine, revising the syllabus thoroughly to strengthen my understanding. I followed every tip and advice given by my teachers,” said Manogna, a student of Bhashyam IIT-JEE Academy in Guntur.
Manogna said she spent about 12 to 14 hours every day on exam preparation. If she clears the next hurdle, the JEE Advanced, she will become the first IITian in her family.
“I prepared for exams with enthusiasm and passion, instead of seeing it as pressure,” Manogna said, adding that she gave equal importance to both studies and her hobbies.
Bani, the topper from Telangana, said he focused more on chemistry as he kept forgetting topics and was happy that he managed to secure 100 NTA.
“I maintained my cool during the exam and did not let pressure creep in,” Bani told TOI, adding that it is his dream to study CSE at IIT Mumbai ever since he was introduced to the world of coding in school.
A Bengali born and brought up in Hyderabad, Bani said he would be the first IITian from his family if he managed to secure a seat.
Referring to performance of students, V Ashok Kumar, core dean from Narayana Group, said: “Out of 10 sessions, five were extremely hard. That is reflected directly in the results. Not just from Telangana, even from across the country, the number of cent per cent scores has come down from 24 to 14.”
He said while students from north managed to take advantage of NCERT syllabus, from which most questions are asked, Telugu students couldn’t perform well.
A total of 13,11,544 candidates registered and 12,58,136 appeared for the JEE Main Session 1, which was conducted on Jan 22, 23, 24, 28, and 29 in 618 centres in 304 cities, including 15 outside India.
The NTA has not declared the scores of 39 candidates as they were found indulging in unfair practices.
