IIPE Visakhapatnam hosts ‘Samavesha-10’ workshop with I-STEM to connect researchers with cutting-edge R&D facilities

The Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy (IIPE), Visakhapatnam organised ‘Samavesha-10’, a one-day workshop, in collaboration with I-STEM (Indian Science, Technology, and Engineering Facilities Map) on the institute premises here on Tuesday.

I-STEM, conceived and supported by the Office of the Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India, is an interactive web portal that creates a centralised platform to help researchers discover and share access to research and scientific facilities.

The primary aim of ‘Samavesha-10’ was to familiarise participants with the usage of the I-STEM portal, enabling researchers, academics and industry professionals, particularly from Visakhapatnam and surrounding districts, to access cutting-edge R&D facilities from institutions across the country and bridge the infrastructure gap.

Through the I-STEM portal, researchers or industry members seeking advanced scientific equipment can connect with the institution that has the equipment they need and rent it for conducting their experiments. IIPE showcased its sophisticated R&D equipment to the participants during the event.

The event was inaugurated by guests, including Jitendra Sharma, MD & Founder CEO of AMTZ, P.P. Lal Krishna, MD & CEO of Visakha Pharma City Limited, Harilal Bhaskar, COO & National Coordinator of I-STEM, Shalivahan, Director of IIPE, K. Vijaya Kumar, Dean (R&D) of IIPE, Ramphal Dwivedi, Registrar of IIPE.

Prof. Polamarasetty Aparoy and Prof. Randhi Ramunaidu, faculty members, research scholars from various universities and colleges, and members from start-ups and industries in Visakhapatnam and surrounding districts, participated.

Prof. Shalivahan explained the institute’s growth and the institute’s contributions to the regional development. Dr. Jitendra Sharma delivered the keynote address, explaining various research facilities available at AMTZ, and discussed the establishment, growth and contributions of AMTZ in India’s medical technology field. He elaborated on three types of innovations, Product, Process, and Social Innovation, citing practical examples. He emphasised the importance of collaboration between AMTZ and IIPE in manufacturing medical technological devices using petroleum as raw material.

Mr. Lal Krishna expressed his willingness to collaborate with the IIPE in wastewater treatment and carbon capture and utilisation fields.

Prof. K. Vijaya Kumar, Dean (R&D), emphasised the philosophy of 5Ps—Projects, Papers, Ph.Ds, Patents, and Partnerships. Through collaboration with I-STEM, IIPE aims to maximise the utilisation of its equipment and human resources.
