Tata Falls Behind! MG Windsor EV Outsells Nexon & Punch EV

The MG Windsor EV is an instant hit. Launched in September 2025, this electric compact MPV along with the Comet EV and ZS EV challenged dominance of Tata Motors in the EV space, which has five offerings – Tiago EV, Tigor EV, Punch EV, Nexon EV and Curvv EV. What has actually worked in favour of the Windsor EV are its competitive pricing, BaaS rental scheme, and cabin comfort and features. Additionally, the carmaker is offering a lifetime warranty for the battery with unlimited kilometers (applicable only to the first buyers) and free public charging for the first year.

Tata Falls Behind! MG Windsor EV Outsells Nexon & Punch EV

Within the first month of its market arrival, the MG Windsor EV outnumbered Tata’s two top-selling EVs – Nexon and Punch. MG’s electric MPV registered sales of 3,116 units in October 2024, while the Nexon EV and Punch EV posted total sales of 1,593 units and 915 units, respectively. The sales figures of the Windsor stood at 3,144 units, 3,785 units and 3,450 units in November, December and January, respectively. Since its launch in September 2024, MG has retailed a total of 13,997 units of the Windsor EV. The Nexon EV and Punch EV clocked sales of 7,047 units and 5,708 units, respectively, during the same duration.

In January 2025, Tata Motors retailed a total of 5,037 units of the electric cars, securing a market share of 45 precent down from 68 percent in the same month previous year.  JSW MG Motor India, on the other hand, recorded total sales of 4,225 units, just 812 units behind Tata.

MG Windsor EV Powertrain:

The Windsor EV comes with a 38kWh LFP battery and a front axle-mounted electric motor producing 136bhp and 200Nm. MG claims that this electric MPV offers a range of 331km. It takes 55 minutes to charge from 0 to 80 percent using a fast charger. The carmaker also offers a 3.3kW and 7.7kW AC chargers with the EV, which can fully charge it in 14 hours and 6.5 hours, respectively. The Windsor EV offers four driving modes – Eco, Eco+, Normal and Sport.
