The Verdict: False
The video of AIMIM leader Tahir Hussain holding a rally was filmed during his election campaign, not after the election results.
What is the claim?
A video of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader Tahir Hussain is circulating online with claims that it shows a rally he led despite his defeat in the recently concluded Delhi Assembly elections. Hussain, a former councilor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), is accused of playing a key role in inciting violence during the 2020 riots in Delhi.
Several social media users, including KreatelyMedia, an X user known for sharing misinformationshared this video and wrote, “Procession of Tahir Hussain after defeat. What did you understand by seeing this crowd? (translated from Hindi).”
Sagar Kumar, a reporter with right-wing news outlet Sudarshan Newswho has spread misinformation in the past, wrote on X, “The people of Mustafabad have given 30 thousand votes to Tahir Hussain, accused of Delhi riots. And he is taking out a procession even after losing (translated from Hindi).” At the time of writing this story, the post had amassed over 303,000 views and more than 5,900 likes.
Archived versions of this and other similar posts are available here, here, here, here, hereand here.
However, we found that the video predates the 2025 Delhi Assembly election results.
What are the facts?
A reverse image search of keyframes from the viral video led us to several similar user-generated videos on social media platforms.
A video (archived here) uploaded by a YouTube user “SAHILMIRZA” on February 06, 2025, featured the same visuals and audio as the viral video, indicating it was circulating on social media before the Delhi Assembly election results were announced on February 8, 2025.
We also checked Hussain’s Facebook page and found multiple videos of his election roadshow in the Mustafabad area of Delhi posted on February 3, before the results of the elections were announced (archived here and here). In one of these videos (archived here), Hussain can be seen in white attire, accompanied by police officials. The same individual can also be seen seated on the bonnet of the white vehicle, similar to the viral video.
Furthermore, AIMIM Delhi State President, Dr. Shoaib Jamai shared the visuals of Hussain’s roadshow (archived here) on February 3, with the caption, “Before the end of the election campaign, a huge rally was held in Mustafabad today and the support of thousands of people in support of Tahir Hussain will, Insha Allah, be converted into votes. Thanks to Hyderabad MLA Majid Hussain sahab. Today the people of Mustafabad have chosen their leader.”
A relevant keyword search on Google related to Hussain’s rally after the Delhi election results did not yield any results.
Further, we found multiple news reports indicating that Hussain, an undertrial prisoner in the Delhi riots case, was granted parole by the Supreme Court to participate in his election campaign in Mustafabad. He was released for six days, from January 29 to February 3, 2025, during the daytime (12 hours, as per the Jail Manual). However, the results of the Delhi elections were announced on February 8, after Hussain’s parole ended, further confirming that the viral video predates the results of the elections.
To further corroborate our findings, Logically Facts contacted Tauseef Mohammad, the Public Relations Officer of AIMIM, who said, “Tahir Hussain had surrendered on February 3, 2025, and was in jail during the polling and counting day of the election.” He further stated, “The video was captured on February 3 at Mustafabad Main Road, on the last date of the election campaign. Mustafabad candidate Tahir Hussain and Mohammed Majid Hussain, MLA, AIMIM Party Nampally Assembly constituency of Hyderabad City, can be seen in the video footage.”
The Bharatiya Janata Party’s Mohan Singh Bisht Won The Mustafabad constituency with a margin of 85,215 votes, defeating Aam Aadmi Party’s Adeel Ahmad Khan and AIMIM candidate Hussain.
The verdict
The viral social media posts claiming to show a video of AIMIM party leader Tahir Hussain’s rally following his defeat in the recently concluded 2025 Delhi assembly elections are false. Hussain was on parole from January 29 to February 3, and the video was taken during his election campaign, which predates the announcement of election results.
