Kamal Haasan to be nominated for Rajya Sabha?

Legendary actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan will be nominated for Rajya Sabha from Tamil Nadu by the ruling DMK party, according to the latest reports. The upcoming phase of Rajya Sabha elections is scheduled to take place in July this year.
Kamal Haasan’s political party, Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM), had entered into an alliance with the MK Stalin-led DMK party and even campaigned during the Lok Sabha elections last year. As a part of the alliance, Kamal’s MNM had secured one seat for the Rajya Sabha 2025 elections. Incidentally, during the announcement of the MNM-DMK alliance last year, Kamal said that he had joined hands with the DMK for the sake of Tamil Nadu and not for power or post.
Kamal’s MNM had contested the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. However, the new party had lost all the 140 seats it contested. On the movies front, Kamal has a couple of high-profile projects that are gearing up for release. While Thug Life with Mani Ratnam is slated for release in June, Indian 3 will be hitting theaters sometime in 2026.
