Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC K. Kavitha has demanded that the Congress Government implement the promise made to women before the Assembly elections – giving monthly assistance of ₹2,500 each under Mahalaxmi scheme – along with payment of dues of ₹35,000 each not paid for the last 14 months.
In a statement, Ms. Kavitha said at the Telangana Jagruthi women members’ meeting here on Tuesday that the BRS had welcomed the free RTC bus travel facility to women, but demanded that the number of buses be increased as the implementation of the scheme was causing inconvenience not only to women but also other passengers due to overcrowding of buses.
She sought to know from the government about the status of other promises made to women such as 10 gm gold in addition to ₹1 lakh financial assistance to girls from poor families on their marriage and the distribution of scooters to college going girls/women and when their implementation was likely to begin.
Ms. Kavitha demanded that the government announce at least the action plan for the implementation of all promises made to women by the International Women’s Day (March 8). If not, the Jagruthi would take up a movement to press for their implementation.
