Hyderabad: Irrigation minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy attended a crucial Supreme Court hearing on Thursday in connection with a writ petition filed by Andhra Pradesh on Krishna water sharing issue.
The petition (WP 1230/2023) challenges the additional terms of reference (TOR) issued by the Centre to the Brijesh Kumar Tribunal, which is tasked with deciding the allocation and sharing of Krishna river water between Telangana and AP.
The Centre issued these additional TORs in Oct 2023, prompting AP to file the petition in the top court, contesting the issuance. The case has been heard several times before, but the state has not received any relief thus far.
Meanwhile, the Brijesh Kumar Tribunal began its hearings on the dispute between the two states. After considering both sides, the tribunal decided to address the additional TORs first, ruling in favour of Telangana.
The next hearing by the tribunal is scheduled for Feb 19. However, the apex court did not provide any immediate relief to AP during Thursday’s session and has posted the matter for further hearing on Feb 27.
