Former Telangana BJP president, Karimnagar MP and Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay Kumar attested that the inclusion of Muslims in the Backward Classes (BC) will never get approval from the Central Government.

“There is no question of accepting the inclusion of Muslims in the BCs. Our party is against religious-based reservations. Knowing this and still trying to push the issue on the Central Government is foolishness. It is clear the Congress Government [in Telangana] does not have sincere intention to implement reservations for BCs,” he said on Thursday (February 13, 2025).

The senior BJP leader further said that including the Muslim community in the BCs category will deprive the latter of their rightful reservations. The Congress Party is doing even more injustice to BCs and if Muslims are merged into the BCs category, the entire Hindu community will revolt, he claimed.

The Union Minister also warned that the ruling party is sure to face consequences in the ensuing MLC elections because of this move and urged for removing Muslims from the BC list. The State Government should stand by its promise to implement 42% quota for BCs in the ensuing local body polls and any backtracking meant betraying the BCs.

Delays might stop 15th Finance Commission funds

“The Congress Party does not have the courage to contest local body elections and delaying them will only harm Telangana as the 15th Finance Commission funds may be stopped,” he said.

Admission of failure

In a separate statement, party spokesman N.V. Subash said that Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka’s latest statement on the Caste Census is an “implicit admission of failure and deceit”. He questioned the legitimacy of the government’s assertion that 95% of households were covered, arguing that reports and videos on social media clearly showed widespread resistance to the survey, with many people refusing to participate.

“How can the government ignore overwhelming evidence of surveyors being turned away by households? The data appears to be fabricated,” alleged Mr. Subash. The February 16 – 28 extension for the leftover survey of ‘3.1%’ is another Congress-led gimmick to justify its 42% BC quota promise in local bodies, he added.
