CS for action plan to ensure availability of sufficient sand for housing

Chief Secretary A. Santhi Kumari has directed the district collectors to formulate an action plan to ensure that sand for house construction purposes is available in sufficient quantity and is supplied to consumers at a fair price.

The Chief Secretary who held a teleconference with collectors of Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Peddapalli, Mancherial and Karimnagar districts on Tuesday instructed them to constitute a joint team of revenue and police departments besides conducting physical inspection of the reaches and stockyards. The joint inspection team should comprise officers of the rank of revenue divisional officer and deputy superintendents of police.

The teams should inspect entry and exit points of the stockyards and reaches along with facilities available there. They should suggest measures to address gaps if any. District collectors were told to identify roads leading to major sand markets in the State. Teams comprising officials from the police and transport department should also be constituted for road patrolling and checking besides those for monitoring the reaches/stockyard round the clock so that there is no unauthorised lifting of sand.
