Suryapet: A young farmer attempted suicide as his crops were left dried up due to a severe water crisis in Kudakuda village of Suryapet district on Thursday.
Vemulakonda Lakshmaiah, a close relative of a Congress leader, made an attempt to end his life consuming pesticide in the midst of his withering crop. He expressed his anguish over the lack of timely water supply from the SRSP canal, a situation he attributed to the current Congress government’s failure.
During the previous BRS government’s tenure, under the leadership of former minister G Jagadish Reddy, the SRSP canal water was released on time, he pointed out. Unable to save his crops, Lakshmaiah resorted to the desperate step as a form of protest.
As he appeared in the fields with a pesticide container in his hand, other farmers came to his rescue and prevented him from committing suicide.
