A librarian at the AP Residential Junior College (girls) at Banavasi in Yemmiganur mandal in Kurnool district was arrested under the POCSO Act for allegedly misbehaving with a girl student.
The accussed, Maddileti, reportedly misbehaved with a second year MPC student of the college. The student had reportedly brought the issue to the notice of the college principal, however, no action was taken. The girl hails from Anantapur.
The student informed the alleged misbehaviour of the librarian to her parents, who reached Banavasi and attacked the librarian. In the commotion that broke out, the principal also suffered an injury.
Later, they took the girl back to their native place after lodging a complaint with the local police. On Thursday, the students staged a protest on the road demanding action against the librarian and also other male staff, who allegedly harassed them.
The girl students alleged that male lecturers engaged on contract basis should be removed. They further said that the male lecturers are staying in the college at night. They alleged that Maddileti had misbehaved with girl students on earlier occasions as well, but no action was taken.
