Vijayawada: In good news for the auto-rickshaw drivers in Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada cities, state govt on Thursday removed restrictions on the number of auto-rickshaws in the wake of creation of new districts. Govt said that the newly purchased auto-rickshaws should be of a BS-VI CNG/Petrol/LPG (positive ignition based technology) models or battery operated in both the cities in order to fulfil the needs of the public and for last mile connectivity.
However, govt forbade entry of new auto-rickshaws in Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada cities on change of address and transfer of ownership of the existing vehicles plying other cities of the state.
A govt order (GO) MS No-8 to this effect has been issued by Kantilal Dande, principal secretary (transport, roads and buildings), on Thursday, in which, the transport commissioner has been directed to take further actions accordingly.
Earlier, In a letter to govt, the transport commissioner stated that according to Rule 177 of Andhra Pradesh Motor Vehicles Rules, the RTA grants permits to auto-rickshaws.
