Key Players to Watch Out for in WPL 2025
Several key players are expected to make a significant impact in the 2025 Women’s Premier League (WPL). These include both domestic and international talents who are anticipated to play crucial roles for their respective teams.
Key Players to Watch:
- Smriti Mandhana (RCB): Mandhana had an outstanding year in women’s ODIs and T20Is. Despite a disappointing performance in the 2023 WPL, she improved in the 2024 season, scoring 300 runs. Her current form suggests she could set the stage on fire in the WPL2.
- Depth Sharma (Up Warriorz) Appointed as UP Warriorz’s captain for the WPL 2025 season after Healy was ruled out due to injury, Deepti has an impressive record with both bat and ball in the WPL. She has 385 runs and 19 wickets in her WPL career.
- Shafali Verma (Delhi Capitals): After being ousted from the Indian women’s cricket team due to lack of form, WPL 2025 is a massive opportunity for Shafali Verma to regain her form. She is the third-highest scorer in the tournament with 561 runs.
- Meg Lanning (Delhi Capitals): Lanning has been a pillar of strength for Delhi Capitals, guiding them to back-to-back WPL finals in 2023 and 2024. She has amassed six fifties in 18 matches, striking at an impressive 130, making her one of the most consistent top-order batters in the tournament.
- Danni Wyatt-Hodge (RCB): With Sophie Devine unavailable, Danni Wyatt-Hodge is expected to provide explosive starts for RCB. She has demonstrated her ability to adapt to challenging conditions and is expected to form a crucial partnership with Smriti Mandhana.
- Hayley Matthews (Mumbai Indians): Matthews has been a game-changer for the Mumbai Indians, with both explosive batting and wicket-taking ability. Having scored 451 runs and bagged 23 wickets in 19 WPL matches, Matthews has cemented her reputation as one of the most valuable players in the league.
- Deandra Dottin (Gujarat Giants): Dottin is an aggressive top-order batter and medium-pace bowler. She has scored nearly 5,000 runs and taken 125 wickets in women’s T20s and is also the first player to score a hundred in WT20Is. Her addition will be a huge boost to Gujarat.
- Annabel Sutherland (Delhi Capitals): Sutherland is currently considered the best all-rounder in women’s cricket across formats. Delhi Capitals paid a whopping INR 2 crore to sign her.
- Beth Mooney (Gujarat Giants): A consistent run scorer and a top fantasy pick for the Gujarat vs. Bengaluru match.
- Ellyse Perry (RCB): One of the best all-rounders in women’s cricket, contributing in all departments.
- Phoebe Litchfield (Gujarat Giants): Litchfield is an aggressive top-order batter for Australia. She would want to change all of that record in WPL 2025.
