2 GBS Patients Critical at State Hospital in Guntur

Vijayawada: Two of the seven patients admitted to Guntur government hospital with Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) are in critical condition, while one was discharged on Friday.

The patients, hailing from Konaseema, Piduguralla, Giddalur, and Guntur, were admitted a week ago and are undergoing treatment.

GBS is an autoimmune disease triggered by viral infections, causing weakness in the hands and legs while also affecting the peripheral nervous system.

Doctors at the hospital are providing the necessary medical support to boost the patients’ immune systems and manage respiratory complications. Of the two critical patients, one is on a ventilator, while the other may require ventilator support.

Government hospital medical superintendent Dr S. S. Ramana said, “We are providing all necessary medical support to GBS patients. As it is not a contagious disease, people need not panic. For the past two decades, our hospital has been handling at least 10 such cases regularly.”
