The stadium, selected by DC as its second home ground after Feroz Shah Kotla, has seen some memorable matches in the past.
The ACA-VDCA Stadium will host two Indian Premier League (IPL) matches this season, according to sources in the Andhra Cricket Association (ACA).
The stadium, which was selected by Delhi Capitals (DC) as its second home ground, has hosted several IPL matches in the past, with last year’s matches between DC and KKR and DC and CSK witnessing sold-out crowds.
This year IPL season begins on March 22, and the schedule is likely to be out in a few days. ACA secretary S. Satish Kumar said that DC is likely to play its first two matches at the ACA-VDCA Stadium.
“Initially, there were no plans to play here this season. But in the last couple of months, we embarked on various developmental activities to meet the high standards of IPL. Renovation works were taken up and floodlights, toilets, VIP areas were refurbished. We conveyed all of this to the DC management, after which the franchise representatives visited the stadium. Satisfied with the improvements made to the stadium, they have agreed to play two matches here this season,” Mr. Satish told The Hindu.
The secretary said that DC will arrive well ahead of schedule and practise in the stadium.
This season, the star-studded DC line-up comprises KL Rahul, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, former South Africa captain Faf Du Plessis, England batter Harry Brook, and Australian left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc. All these players have large fan followings in the city.
Interestingly, DC is yet to announce their captain for the upcoming season. Swashbuckling wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant, who captained DC for the last few seasons, was not retained by the franchise this season.
