Vijayawada: Helmet-wearing motorists, who were commuting on MG Road on Friday, were in for a pleasant surprise as they received chocolates from transport department authorities for adhering to traffic norms.
As part of the National Road Safety Month celebrations, the transport department launched the ‘wear helmet, get chocolate’ initiative, an innovative awareness drive aimed at sensitising commuters about helmet compliance at Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation (IGMC) Stadium in the city.
On the occasion, the NTR district deputy transport commissioner (DTC) A Mohan distributed chocolates to around 300 motorists for wearing helmets while driving.
Speaking at the event, DTC Mohan said that helmets act as protective gear, shielding the head and minimising injuries during accidents.
