Vijayawada: The high court on Friday dismissed the bail petition filed by Tulasi Babu, one of the accused in the Raghu Ramakrishna Raju custodial torture case. The court considered the prosecution’s arguments that the investigation could be affected if bail was granted to Tulasi Babu, as other accused in the case are yet to be identified.
Opposing the grant of bail, senior counsel Posani Venkateswarlu and public prosecutor Menda Lakshmi Narayana argued that Tulasi Babu was appointed as a legal assistant in the crime investigation department (CID) in 2020, by which time he was not even a registered advocate. They said Tulasi Babu enrolled as an advocate in 2021, which clearly exposes the nexus between the CID and Tulasi Babu, as he was paid Rs 48 lakh for assisting in 12 cases.
The prosecution further stated that Tulasi Babu’s friends gave statements confirming his role in the case. As three more accused are yet to be arrested, they opposed the grant of bail at this stage, as it would negatively affect the investigation. Considering the arguments, Justice VRK Krupa Sagar dismissed the bail petition.
