There is no decline in the demand for chicken in Hyderabad. Chicken shop owners said that they have not observed any change in the consumers’ need for meat in the past few days. The butchers who have been following news about Bird Flu in a few Statessaid that prices are subjective to the company they buy the chicken from. Some of them receive prices for the day over phone.
When asked about the prices, Shaik Miraj kept aside the chicken he was cutting at his store in Begumpet and asked for today’s paper. Showing a Telugu newspaper, he showed prices displayed in a small column. “See, we price chicken according to what is displayed here. The prices rose by ₹20. We can say there has been some impact had the prices dropped,” said Mr. Miraj.

While waiting for customers at a chicken stall by the side of a road in the city, Arbaz said that he too did not observe any changes. “The demand for mutton or fish would go up if there was any impact. But we did not see any changes,” he said. Mr. Arbaz who has been watching news about Bird Flu in other States.
There has been no change in the demand for chicken food items, said Rama Krishna V, a partner at Raj Hotel in Hayatnagar.
