Upping the ante against the politicians and parties opposing the socio-economic survey conducted by the government, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has given a call to boycott the former Chief Minister and president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) K. Chandrasekhar Rao and BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao, if they fail to participate in the re-survey being taken up this month.
Mr. Reddy, who was speaking after a presentation on the socio-economic survey and SC sub-categorisation here at Gandhi Bhavan on Friday, did not mince words stating that people should declare social boycott of the BRS top leaders, if they shied away from the re-survey. “They don’t participate in the survey and then blame the government claiming that the report is full of errors,” he pointed out.
Stating that Telangana has shown the answer to the two burning issues of caste census and SC sub-categorisation, Mr. Reddy a deliberate attempt was being made to fault the survey. He called upon the people not to fall for the false campaign run by the Opposition parties on the survey.
The Chief Minister wondered, what business KCR and his family has in Telangana, when they had not participated in the socio economic survey. He sought to know why the integrated survey conducted by the then BRS government was not made public.
Mr. Reddy went to the extent of stating that he did not bother if he would be the last Chief Minister from his community but was determined to ensure that the fruits of the survey were reaped by the backward classes. Mr. Reddy said he had kept the word given by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and conducted the caste survey.
He also targetted Prime Minister Narendra Modi pointing out that his caste was not BC and only after becoming the Chief Minister of Gujarat, his community was brought the BC reservation. “He is only a certified BC and not a BC by birth,” he said ridiculing the BJP for opposing caste census across the country.
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said 97% of the State population had participated in the survey and it was leaders like KCR and KTR, who were criticising the entire exercise for their personal interests. He said government was committed to the welfare of the downtrodden and dismissed the accusations of wrong doing in the caste survey.
TPCC chief Mahesh Kumar Goud said the government would bring in a legislation to give legal sanctity to 42% BC reservations. He praised the Chief Minister pointing out that despite hailing from the forward caste, he had readily come forward to conduct the socio-economic survey.
Minister for Health C. Damodar Raj Narasimha said that the SC sub-categorisation in Telangana was major achievement to bridge the gap between sub-castes.
