Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh forest department, in collaboration with Eastern Ghats Wildlife Society (EGWS) released a project report on the conservation of Indian pangolins in the state as part of World Pangolin Day celebrations on Friday.
AK Naik, principal chief conservator of forests- wildlife & chief wildlife warden, Dr Shanti Priya Pandey, additional PCCF (wildlife) along with Rahul Pandey and other senior officers released a project report for the on-going conservation program to study and conserve Indian pangolins in Nagarjuna Sagar-Srisailam tiger reserve by the forest department and Eastern Ghats Wildlife Society. On the occasion, a poster on the pangolin (manis crassicaudata) was also released. Deputy chief minister Pawan Kalyan, in his message, said that he had first seen an Indian pangolin as a kid while playing near his house at Gopalanagaram in Ongole town.
Later AK Naik said using camera traps and engaging local communities as wildlife informants can help detect and prevent poaching activities.
