Bengaluru to Mysore & back in my Mini Cooper S: Observations on route

Mysore town is simply so beautiful and quiet and peaceful and relatively traffic free.

Bhpian shankar.balan recently shared this with other enthusiasts:

Took the day off in order to take Dad to Mysore just for a bit.

Lovely drive. Unhurried. 7:30am departure. Didn’t bother topping up the fuel tank as it was at 3 quarters.

Good disciplined driving overall on the NICE Road and on the Mysore Toll Highway. Except one or two folks.

Near Channapatna area there was a Raspberry Red Merc CLA (I think) which was pretty badly bashed around its front end. There were people standing around but no ambulances etc.

Stopped at the ‘New Maddur Tiffanys’ for breakfast. Its much much cleaner and better appointed than the old decrepit Maddur Tiffanys. Good food. Superfast service despite the large breakfast crowd.

Then Mysore and some internal here and there. Mysore town is simply so beautiful and quiet and peaceful and relatively traffic free. On a bright Spring/ Summers day there is a certain atmosphere and the bright sun and clear sky makes it feel like 1980’s Madras.

Filled some nice XP 95 and some additional Booster Juice. Stopped and had some tea and a light snack at Radisson and then drove back.

Express Highway was good. Quite empty. Decent discipline again. Except for the inevitable one or two ‘muggle-brains.’ There were two or three places where I had to ‘step on it’ to overtake but otherwise it was all fine and dandy on cruise control 99kmph.

As we were getting on to the Expressway at the Mysore end, (around where the Swad Restaurant is, on the right side.) we saw a Traffic Patrol vehicle parked and some cops around a scooterist who had entered the Expressway. Its good to see that they are enforcing the ‘No 2 Wheeler rule properly.’

We again saw that Raspberry Red Merc as it was being loaded onto a Trailer, on the way back.

NICE road is very nice overall. But there is absolutely no lane discipline. So one is always overtaking by force, on the left verge. Most irritating.

Anyway, Home and dry as they say, by 2pm.

The Little Red Car performed very nicely and growled along with great aplomb. I think it is good to give it a solid consistent drive now and again, at a 99-100kmph for a longer and sustained period of time. A 318 kms run, door to door. Most enjoyable indeed.

I really love my Little Red Car and I feel so grateful to the Good Lord above that I could buy it when I did. 5 years and Counting!
