Vijayawada: Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday said the state govt is committed to protecting tribal laws and uplifting tribal communities out of poverty. Naidu, who paid tributes to Sri Sant Sevalal Maharaj on his 288th birth anniversary, said the govt is developing a comprehensive plan for elimination of poverty in tribal areas.
Sevalal was a social and religious reformer and spiritual guru of the Banjara community, who advocated the path of non-violence even before Mahatma Gandhi. He was born on Feb 15, 1739, at Ram Ji Naik Tanda under Guthi mandal, a backward area in Anantapur district, to Bhima Naik and Dharmani Mata. Sevalal worked tirelessly to eradicate superstitions and told the Banjara community to worship Goddess Durga with devotion. Despite pressure from the British and other religious rulers for the conversion of Banjaras, Sevalal did not bow down. He led many movements for the people, including Peri Fer. His principles include preventing religious conversions, spreading dharma, and economic reforms. He travelled across the country, awakening people about education and health.
Naidu said that Sevalal is an example of how a person born into a poor family can profoundly impact people and how noble thoughts and principles can remain in people’s hearts forever. He announced that Sevalal’s birth anniversary will be observed as a state event and directed officials to release Rs 50 lakh to conduct programs in his memory.
“Inspired by great individuals like Sevalal, we are working for the welfare of society while preserving everyone’s sentiments. It was NTR who brought various schemes aimed for the upliftment of tribal communities like Yanadis, Banjaras, and Chenchus in both hill and plain areas. The state govt is planning to achieve zero poverty through the P4 model, which will be launched from Ugadi,” Naidu said.
“In the united state, we made Chandulal from Warangal a minister for the first time. We want all tribal communities to prosper economically and politically,”he said.
