Hyderabad: The Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS) has predicted that the temperature in Hyderabad is likely to touch 40° Celsius by the end of Feb.
“This would be the first time such a high temperature is recorded in the city in Feb, otherwise the normal temperature in the state during this month is usually between 33° Celsius and 36° Celsius,” said Y V Rama Rao of TSDPS.
Historically, Hyderabad has seen much lower maximum temperatures in Feb. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the highest maximum temperature recorded in Feb 2024 was 35.2° Celsius. Similarly, Feb 2023 saw a high of 34° Celsius, while Feb 2022 and 2021 recorded maximum temperatures of 35.5 and 36° Celsius, respectively.
“These figures are significantly different from the patterns observed in previous years. The current month has already shown a warming trend with almost 21 districts touching 37° Celsius,” said an official of IMD.
Mahesh Palawat, a scientist with Skymet, a private weather forecasting agency, said: “The temperatures will continue to rise from here with an increase of 3 to 4 degrees over the usual temperatures.”
