Hyderabad: The ‘Future City’ near Mucherla, a flagship project of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, is designed to be India’s first net zero carbon city. The project will integrate with the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) measures to create an eco-friendly urban hub, it was announced at the Green Telangana Summit 2025.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC) and IGBC ensures that the Future City follows global green building standards. Located 25 km from the Shamshabad airport, it will focus on AI, advanced manufacturing, medical tourism, data centres, electric vehicles, and life sciences. The city will feature metro rail connectivity, speciality hospitals, a cricket stadium, and a skill development university.
Dr E. Vishnu Vardhan Reddy, special secretary, industries and commerce, spoke of Hyderabad’s rise as a business hub saying “Telangana is shaping policies that support evolving industries. Our vision is to exceed India’s green and net zero goals.”
The summit celebrated 1,000 IGBC-registered green and net zero projects, including Secunderabad railway station, Capgemini Hyderabad, and Genpact at Uppal. The IGBC Green Crusaders initiative saw 52 projects covering 163 million square feet registered for green and net zero ratings.
Panel discussions on sustainable urban planning, smart cities, and green building materials highlighted low-carbon concrete, net-zero energy buildings, and circular economy principles. IGBC’s C. Shekar Reddy urged stakeholders to act now, noting that buildings account for 35 per cent of India’s energy consumption.
