By When Can Waqf Board Have Full Time CEO, HC Asks Government

Hyderabad: A division bench of the Telangana High Court has directed the principal secretary of the minority welfare department and the state Waqf Board to inform it within four weeks, as to how much time it would take to fill up the post of CEO of the board on a regular basis.

The bench, comprising Justice Abhinand Kumar Shavili and Justice Tirumala Devi Eada, was dealing with an appeal filed by the minority welfare department and the board challenging the single judge orders of January 10, which had directed removal of Md. Asadullah as CEO with immediate effect and ordered the appointment of a new full time CEO within four months. Meanwhile, the single judge also gave liberty to the Waqf Board to appoint an in-charge CEO till such time.

The single judge had found that the appointment of Asadullah was in violation of Section 23 of the Waqf Act.

However, in the appeal, the principal secretary of the minority welfare department and Waqf Board submitted that the state government had appointed Asadullah as the CEO on deputation for one year. Hence, the division bench suspended the single judge orders regarding Asadullah’s removal and directed the government to inform the court as to the time required to have a full time CEO. The case adjourned to March 12.
