Dug up road makes commuting a hassle for Film Nagar residents | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: A stretch of road that was dug up close to a month ago and is yet to be repaired, has left Film Nagar residents flustered. They rue how the portion of the road — despite being just a kilometre (approx.) in length — has thrown traffic out of gear, often leaving commuters stranded during peak hours. The situation, they say, is especially bad during the evening hours when work on the road is taken up.
Last month, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) took up the digging work along the Road No 92 crossing the Film Nagar junction and Navnirman Nagar for laying of drainage pipes. But the work is yet to be completed.
When TOI visited the site on Sunday, the road was found to be in poor condition, with loose gravel and uneven surfaces posing risks to motorists and pedestrians alike. Sludge from the under-repair drainpipes was also found on the road.
“It’s becoming increasingly difficult to navigate these roads, especially during the peak traffic hours. In such areas where there is VIP movement, you would expect work to be expedited, but it is unfortunate that it’s proceeding at a snail’s pace,” said resident and civic activist Harish Daga. He added that elderly persons and children can’t even step out for their regular walks due to the dust and congestion caused by the unfinished work.
The situation worsens during evening hours when office goers struggle to manoeuvre through the narrow passages.
Responding to the concerns, a GHMC official present at the site said, “These pipes are being laid to address the long-standing sewage issues in the area. The work is being carried out during night hours to minimise inconvenience to residents.” He said that the work is expected to be completed in the next two months.
