The blaze was primarily limited to the electrical wiring and installations at a common meter box, as well as the electrical wiring in the common passage on the ground floor of the structure.
Two women in the common passage on the first floor suffered injuries to their hands and legs, in addition to being affected by smoke inhalation.
Both of them, identified as Sabila Khatun Shaikh (42) and Sajiya Alam Sheikh (30), were taken to hospital but wwere declared dead, the official said.
Additionally, a man residing on the sixth floor and a woman on the eighth floor also experienced suffocation. These individuals, identified as Karim Shaikh (20) and Shahin Shaikh (22), were promptly transported to the government-operated J J Hospital, where their conditions were reported to be stable.
The fire was successfully extinguished by 6:31 am. As of now, the cause of the fire remains unknown.
