Vijayawada: To end the controversies surrounding the sale of land granted to the ex-servicemen, state govt directed district collectors to resolve all grievances on war footing basis.
With several ex-servicemen approaching Union home and defence ministries for help, state govt asked the district collectors to set their focus on the issue. Govt has decided to issue detailed guidelines to resolve the issue to clear the ambiguity of the district collectors. Sources said that it has come to the notice of govt that district collectors are scared to remove lands owned by ex-servicemen from the prohibitory list (22-A) to allow them to sell their lands after the mandatory 10-year period. “There are many genuine issues to be resolved. The district collectors can’t sit over all the files by taking a few fake or bogus pattas. Even if they come across any case of forged documents, they are empowered to take action,” observed special chief secretary (revenue), RP Sisodia. He said that govt would shortly issue detailed guidelines to handle the issue.
“District collector is needed to ascertain only two things – whether the ex-serviceman’s identity is genuine, and whether he is in possession of the land granted to him along with proof of assignment shown by him. In such cases, district collectors should grant free-hold even if the DR file is missing in the office,” said the circular.
