Survey for Medchal & Shamirpet Metro corridors speeds up

Hyderabad: Survey works and investigations for the proposed Metro rail corridors connecting JBS to Medchal and Shamirpet are advancing swiftly, said Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML) managing director NVS Reddy on Sunday. The studies, crucial for preparing detailed project reports (DPRs), focus on traffic patterns, soil conditions, and environmental impact assessments.
“We are conducting comprehensive traffic surveys to analyse current daily travel patterns and future projections. This includes studying junction movements, pedestrian footfall, and the percentage of commuters likely to switch to metro services,” metro officials stated.
The soil testing phase, which involves drilling boreholes every half-kilometre to depths of 50 to 100 feet, is also nearing completion. Existing data from the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is being utilised along with conducting additional tests at strategic locations. Of the planned 25 locations on the JBS-Medchal route and 19 on the JBS-Shamirpet route, 14 and 11 tests were conducted respectively, according to HAML.
The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is examining various ecological factors. “Our primary concern is to understand and mitigate any environmental impact. We’re studying air quality, noise pollution levels, water resources, and the project’s effect on local biodiversity and livelihoods,” officials emphasised.
The JBS-Medchal corridor will span 24 km, while the JBS-Shamirpet route will cover 21 km. Reddy assured that all precautions are being implemented to ensure future passenger comfort and safety.
“Following chief minister Revanth Reddy’s directives, we aim to complete all studies and submit the DPRs, including the Shamshabad Airport-Future City route, to the state government by March-end,” metro officials stated.
The reports will then be forwarded to the central govt for final clearance after state approval.
