Hyderabad is set for a major urban transformation as the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) prepares to roll out the Hyderabad City Innovative and Transformative Infrastructure (H-CITI) programme. This initiative is to reshape the city’s with large-scale infrastructure projects, including flyovers, underpasses, and road-widening works to address persistent traffic congestion and improve connectivity.
Comprehensive Traffic Study Drives Key Developments
The H-CITI project, backed by a Comprehensive Traffic Study conducted by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), will see the execution of 38 projects across seven packages, amounting to Rs 5,942 crore, as per The New Indian Express report. The study identified critical congestion points and traffic bottlenecks across the city, forming the basis for the proposed interventions.
In its initial phase, GHMC plans to invite bids in February for 16 key projects. This includes the construction of 10 flyovers and underpasses spanning 13.56 km, along with six major road widening projects covering 6.585 km. Together, these works will cover a total stretch of 20.145 km at an estimated cost of rs 2,400 crore.
Key Infrastructure Upgrades Under H-CITI
As part of the first phase, several critical infrastructure projects will be implemented, including:
- Grade Separators, Flyovers, and Underpasses – To decongest major intersections.
- Railway Under Bridges (RuBs) and Road Over Bridges (RoBs) – To facilitate seamless traffic movement.
- Widening of Major Roads – To accommodate increasing vehicular flow.
- Pedestrian-Friendly Infrastructure – To enhance walkability and safety.

Among the major works planned, steel flyovers and underpasses around KBR Park will cover 13.56 km, while a four-lane steel girder bridge will be constructed over the Fox Sagar Surplus Nala in Quthbullapur.
Multi-Level Connectivity and Road Expansions
To enhance Hyderabad’s road network, key road-widening projects will cover 6.585 km, with specific expansions planned in Jubilee Hills, Film Nagar, Check Post, Maharaja, KBR Park, Mugdha, Agrasen, and Cancer Hospital areas. Additionally, multi-level flyovers and underpasses covering 5.82 km will be constructed at crucial points like Khajaguda (1.52 km), Serilingampally IIIT (3.25 km), and Wipro Junction (1.05 km).
Several other roads are also set for expansion, including:
