Industries and Commerce Minister T.G. Bharath has said the general public, particularly women and youth, should take adequate precautions from falling prey to cyber crimes. He said people are getting cheated believing the calls by fraudsters claiming themselves as customs, police or bank officials.

Mr. Bharath along with Superintendent of Police Vikrant Patel participated in ‘Nenu cyber-smart’ (I am cyber-smart) initiative to create awareness among the college students on cyber frauds and the steps taken to prevent falling prey to them, at the KVR College in RS Road of city on Monday. On the occasion, the Minister and SP have launched the posters and videos which would be used to create awareness on cyber frauds.

Addressing the students, Mr. Bharath suggested the students have strong passwords as the cyber fraudsters would try to hack them. He asked them to be careful while using social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram and others. He suggested the students to concentrate on their students as competitiveness is increasing.

“Every individual should have knowledge about cyber frauds and should take steps not to fall prey to frauds,’‘ he said.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Vikrant Patel said cybercrimes are on the rise with the increased usage of smartphones. Cyber fraudsters are resorting to duping gullible people in the name of digital arrest, investment offers, and asking people to click on links sent by unknown persons, he said.

Mr. Vikrant Patel said awareness would be created among the students at educational institutions from Tuesday on digital arrests, KYC-OTP frauds, job frauds and investment frauds through documentaries. He asked the students to report any cyber crime on the 1930 toll-free number and also through cybercrime.gov.in.

Cluster University Vice-Chancellor D.V.R. Sai Gopal, Registrar Katta Venkateswarlu, Kurnool Additional SP G. Hussain Peera, DSP J. Babu Prasad and others have participated in the programme.
