Hyderabad: Telangana Congress working president T Jagga Reddy on Sunday criticised Union minister Bandi Sanjay for attempting to create a controversy over the caste of Rahul Gandhi and the Nehru-Gandhi family. He clarified that they are Brahmins and from the Hindu community.
“But the Gandhi family is above religions and castes, and their role in India’s independence struggle and their personal sacrifices for the country can never be understood by BJP leaders like Bandi Sanjay. Actually, the BJP leaders were not part of India’s freedom struggle at all,” Jagga Reddy told a media conference.
“When will BJP leaders like Bandi Sanjay truly understand Hindu culture? Sonia Gandhi married a Hindu Brahmin, Rajiv Gandhi, and chose to spend her life in India following her husband. What is BJP’s problem? As per Indian culture, a woman who follows her husband, leaving her birth country, automatically gets the status of her husband’s religion and caste.
