Minister Bharath lays stone for development works in Kurnool city

Industries and Commerce Minister T.G. Bharath on Monday laid the foundation stone for ₹28.12 crore worth of development works in Kurnool Municipal Corporation limits.

Foundations were laid for the set up of a Supervision Control and Data Acquisition (SCAD) monitoring system for the water treatment plant at Ashok Nagar, which is coming up with a cost of ₹4.62 crore, a 12 MLD water treatment plant, sump and pumping station at Weaker Section Colony with a cost of ₹22 crore to provide drinking water to IIIT at Jagannatha Gattu and Kallur areas.

The Minister also started two electric vehicles for collection of garbage and also three vehicles for cleaning the roads.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said they are trying to give permanent solution to the problems plaguing the Kurnool city for more than a decade, since the past eight months.

He said the previous government had issued a GO and called for a tender for construction of the treatment plant but did not sanction any Budget for the same.

“The works should have been completed by now if the previous government was sincere in solving the drinking water problem of the people. Though there are rivers around the city, the people of the city and particularly people in the residential areas that are developing now are facing severe water problems,’‘ he said.

Mr. Bharath said the NDA government would take the responsibility of solving the drinking water problem in the three Assembly Constituencies falling under the Kurnool city limits.

Collector P. Ranjith Basha said the long pending problems in regard to supply of drinking water to the people of the city need to be resolved in view of the upcoming summer season. He said the government is taking steps to complete several projects to address the drinking water issue of the city and the completion of these problems will resolve the issue.

Meanwhile, the Minister also participated in the programme to launch the two additional mineral water plants set up in the Kurnool Government General Hospital and also the upgraded anganwadi centres with the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds given by Coco Cola Beverages Company.
