HC permits Shivaji birth anniversary celebrations

Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy of Telangana High Court on Tuesday directed the Hyderabad police to permit Chatrapathi Shivaji Maharaj birth anniversary celebrations to be convened at Jambagh on Wednesday.

The judge passed the order after hearing a writ petition filed by way of lunch motion. Veer Shivaji Sena president Nitin Nandkar moved the HC stating that the Hyderabad police did not respond to his application seeking permission to conduct Shivaji birth anniversary celebrations to be commenced from pillar no. 1331 near Hanuman mandir in Jambagh.

The judge directed the police to give consent to the celebrations, observing that police would be at liberty to act against the organisers if the programme gives rise to any law and order disturbances. The organisation was permitted to hold the programme between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. with 150 participants.
