Initiative taken to free all ULBs of dumpyards | Vijayawada News

Vijayawada: State govt’s Swachh Andhra Corporation (SAC) has launched an ambitious initiative to make all urban local bodies (ULBs) free of dumping yards. Under this project, garbage processing units will be set up in every municipality, ensuring waste is scientifically processed instead of being dumped.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, SAC chairman K. Pattabhiram revealed that previous govt left 85 lakh metric tonnes of garbage unprocessed across urban areas. The current administration took up the challenge of clearing this waste in a systematic and eco-friendly manner. Every ULB will soon have a waste processing unit tailored to the town’s garbage generation levels, allowing for door-to-door waste collection, immediate segregation, and same-day processing, eliminating the need for dumping yards.
The initiative already started in Kandukur town, where waste is being processed daily. Plans are in place to convert the Kandukur dumping yard into a public park.
Additionally, bio-mining will be undertaken to clear accumulated waste from existing dumping sites across the state, transforming them into green spaces.
